Sabine Debuts Phantom Gooseneck Mics
New Microphones with an IR Gate and Sabine’s Phantom Mic Rider Pro Built-in
ALACHUA, FL — In a major expansion of its product lines Sabine is releasing a new family of microphones with Sabine’s innovative signal processing built-in. The new Phantom Gooseneck Microphones are designed to solve a myriad of problems that can occur with almost every podium or gooseneck mic, starting with an integrated infrared sensor that automatically activates the mic based on the presence of a person in front of the microphone.
“Think of these mics as the solution to bad microphone technique,” says Rob Rothschild, Sabine’s Director of Marketing, “It’s like having an engineer in each mic, one who manages the gain, tweaks the EQ when the person gets too close, and even turns the mic off when no one is near it.”
This new line of SGM microphones comes in two versions. The 45-Series includes all the features of Sabine’s Phantom Mic Rider Pro inline mic processor: Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Plosive/Proximity Effect Control, and the Infrared Gate. These combine to make the microphone much easier to use in almost every situation. The AGC maintains the gain so both the big and small voice presenters will get the proper output level without having to adjust the mic. As a person gets closer to the mic those annoying pops and increased boominess are minimized so the frequency response of the mic is consistent over a wide range of distances from the mic.
The 40-Series of SGM mics only includes the Infrared Gate. The gate is adjustable – users can program the time to turn off the mic after a person walks away from the mic and how close to the mic a person must get before triggering the mic to turn on. This is a powerful feature – no more missing those cues when someone comes to the podium for announcements! The sensor detects body heat and will not be fooled by stage curtains moving or chairs being placed in front of it. The mic simply can be left on but will only activate when someone walks in front of it. If necessary the IR Gate can also be bypassed completely.
All SGM mics come in one of three configurations. The first is a gooseneck mic terminated with a standard XLR connector, for use with an existing mic base or shockmount. Secondly users can choose the SGM mic with an integrated base so it is ready to use on any surface. Finally there is a version with the base that includes a button on top that can be programmed to be either on/off, push to mute, or push to talk.
These new microphones include extremely transparent electret condenser capsules in either cardioid or super-cardioid patterns. Each capsule has an infrared sensor integrated into the design, allowing for a clean look. Gooseneck lengths come in 14” or 18” for the gooseneck–only versions, and 12” or 18” for the units with integrated bases.
