Telecast Fiber Systems' CopperHead™ INF Wins STAR Award From Editors of TV Technology Europe

WORCESTER, Mass. — Oct. 7, 2008 — Telecast Fiber Systems today announced that its new CopperHead™ INF camera-mounted fiber optic transceiver for the Thomson Grass Valley™ Infinity™ camcorder is the recipient of a 2008 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award from TV Technology Europe magazine. The award was presented by the editorial staff of TV Technology Europe at the IBC2008 conference in Amsterdam.

The Copperhead INF is among 25 recipients of this year's STAR Award, designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe's editors and writers reviewed a variety of products and selected the winners based on their technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry.

Designed specifically for the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity Series Digital Media Camcorder (DMC), the CopperHead INF enables the use of the Infinity both as a camcorder and an HD/SDI production camera. The compact system is mounted directly to the Infinity DMC, and multiplexes all two-way camera signals onto a single, lightweight, battlefield-rated fiber cable. Three different versions will support the camera system on single-mode fiber as well as short- and long-distance SMPTE cable applications. The CopperHead INF delivers bidirectional HD/SDI, composite video, audio, intercom, genlock, and camera control between the camera head and the remote CopperHead base station. The lightweight, 1-RU base station integrates easily into any studio, mobile truck, or portable flypack and plugs directly into the facility's switcher, router, intercom, and house sync systems.

"We are honored that the CopperHead INF was chosen for this prestigious award because it highlights our commitment to developing the world's most innovative camera-mounted fiber optic solutions," said Jim Hurwitz, product manager for Telecast Fiber's camera products. "By enabling the ground-breaking Infinity DMC to be dual-purposed as both a camcorder and an HD/SDI production camera, the CopperHead INF provides broadcasters with technological innovation at affordable prices."

"STAR Awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way," said Mark Hallinger, editor of TV Technology Europe. "The products selected help advance the industry — some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain, and some because they were just cool products."
