IPRAYERWORKS BRINGS PRAYER ONLINE

The next phase in worship technology has arrived.

iprayerworks, a web-based application designed to simplify prayer room management, allows prayer room administrators and church intercessors to log in and review, track and distribute prayer requests.

With high-tech projection systems displaying hymn lyrics on large screens, podcasts delivering services to the homebound, and all manner of church management programs making administrative tasks easier, why not turn to a software solution in the prayer room, too?

"Previously, prayer requests were handled by hand," says Toby Dagenhart, developer of the iprayerworks system and founder of iprayerworks, inc. "Cards were hand written and delivered to the prayer room. When intercessors wanted to pray, they had to pick up a prayer list from the church, which was generated using a word processing program."

In February 2006, the prayer room coordinator at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, in Houston, Texas, where Dagenhart works as director of communications, asked Dagenhart if he could create a web-based system to replace the archaic index cards.

Dagenhart, who's been involved in web and database development for more than a decade, jumped at the opportunity. "I've always been interested in creative problem solving, and this challenge allowed me to combine my technical gifts with my desire to help the church community."

Launched at Chapelwood in 2007, word about iprayerworks has spread quickly as churches discover this new, easy way to manage prayer requests. The intuitive system takes about 10 minutes to learn and requires only a computer with an Internet connection to operate.

"I love the fact that I can access iprayerworks from anywhere I have Internet capability," says Reverend Mike Kelley of Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas. "I can approve prayer requests from my house. I'm off on Fridays, so if a request comes in Thursday evening, without iprayerworks I wouldn't see it until the next week."

iprayerworks helps church intercessors make prayer a priority, because intercessors can check prayer lists online and pray from their homes. Kelley, too, has enjoyed the convenience of being able to pray for members of his flock anytime, anywhere. "I can get up at three in the morning if I want to, access the prayer system and pray," he says.
