Compix Media and DNF Controls Team Up to Provide One-Touch Character Generator Control

IRVINE, Calif. — Dec. 15, 2008 — Compix Media, a developer of professional-quality character generators (CGs) for the broadcast industry, today announced that it has teamed with DNF Controls to provide an integrated solution for completely automated delivery of timely information to air. An intelligent interface between Compix Media's character generator product line and DNF Controls' Universal Switch Panel (USP) gives users the ability to generate automatically updated text-based graphics with a single button press.

"Compix Media has built its reputation on providing all the functionality its customers require in an affordable character generator," said John Duggin, president of DNF Controls. "The integration of the company's products with our control technology brings even greater convenience and ease of use to implementation of CGs in many types of environments."

All of Compix Media's current character generator products can be operated remotely by DNF Controls' USP via industry standard protocols including Intelligent Interface and Graphics Programming Interface (GPI). The USP is a 1-RU panel of multipurpose pushbutton switches that can be configured easily using an off-the-shelf Web browser. When the USP is integrated with Compix Media products, each button can be preprogrammed to recall a particular prebuilt template and automatically fill out that template with text from a specific document within a watch file.

In the school setting, for example, this CG functionality allows a non-technical administrator to update a list of school closings and, with a single button press, create a template-based graphic that's up-to-date and ready for air. The very same workflow could also be used to automate delivery of EAS information, reducing the manual processes required and enabling faster, more efficient, and more accurate delivery of alerts and other vital information to air.

Compix Media has specifically partnered with leading broadcast automation and controller vendors to provide price-sensitive, time-saving, and common-sense solutions, with the simple goal of making the end users' jobs easier.

"DNF Controls is widely known and respected as one of the premier control systems providers in the world, and its USP offers a straightforward, pre-programmable system to automate otherwise complex tasks," said Lan Merrill, director of technology at Compix Media. "By teaming with DNF Controls, Compix Media continues to provide our customers with elegant, easy-to-use and cost-effective video production solutions."
