HOW 001: The Portable Worship Experience

This workshop will address the process to designing and implementing portable worship systems that will achieve your goals of performance. Whether you are temporarily meeting in a location such as a school, are extending your reach into a new multisite worship venue, or are a young congregation just getting started, this workshop will give you the understanding you need to move forward with confidence! Together, we’ll discuss the audio, video and lighting system challenges associated with portable worship environments, and talk about some location requirements that have to be met to keep you successful.
Taught by Dan Stark, President and Chief Engineer, Stark Raving Solutions

HOW 004: The Science & Art Behind A Live Worship Sound Mix
Today’s modern contemporary worship style demands a lot more than just an acoustic piano or the traditional organ. It now typically involves a full band, the worship leader, backup singers, and occasionally a choir. The challenge is to put it all together in the audio mix and make it sound like our favorite all inspiring live worship CD recording, or to create the ambience desired for every worship experience. Robert will share his experience and techniques on the use of the mixing console, digital effects and other processors to achieve that effect. The session will also touch on other important aspects that affect live sound mixing, such as understand various music styles and sounds of musical instruments and knowing how to apply and position it in the sound mix, as well as managing room acoustics and stage volume that often interferes with achieving a good live sound mix.
Taught by Robert Soo, Trainer/Consultant on Church Sound Systems

1:00 – 3:30 pm

HOW 002: Traditional Analog Signal Distribution vs Digital Networked Signal Distribution and How They Apply to Your House of Worship

This topic will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of linking input systems, mixing systems and outputs systems onto a single network structure and how that relates to the requirements of House of Worship Audio Systems. The various analog and digital technologies will be explained as well as some insight into the future of audio signal transport.
Taught by Scott Willsallen, Director and Principle Consultant, Auditoria Pty Ltd.

4:00 – 6:30 pm

HOW 003: Best Practices in AV Systems Integration

This workshop discusses the importance of systems integration within the house of worship. Success involved short term (3-6 month), medium term (6 months to 1 year) and long term (over 1 year) timeframes that are a critical piece for implementation planning. Whether adding new equipment, renovating an existing system, or building a new facility with completely new audio, video and lighting systems – you need a process to evaluate what needs to happen, understand how much things are going to cost, and how the work gets done. We’ll discuss best practices within systems integration and look at key success factors for efficient Audio/Visual implementation, as well as critical areas every church should understand before moving into the integration of media systems. We will also look at a few case studies of both small and large churches, as well as integration for renovation and new facilities.
Taught by Justin Ross, Director of Business Development, Stark Raving Solution

HOW 005: The Significance of Sound in Congregation Engagement and Envelopment

Sound quality is not absolute; it is measured and quantified differently depending on the application. In the modern House of Worship sound quality can be measured by the level of congregation engagement and envelopment. This topic discuss the critical factors that contribute to congregation engagement and development in the modern House of Worship.
Taught by Scott Willsallen, Director and Principle Consultant, Auditoria Pty Ltd.

1:00 – 3:30 pm

HOW 006: Display Technologies for Today’s Houses of Worship

Digital Signage is the use of one or more displays or projection systems to show information in a facility. Sometimes the displays are in classrooms, cry rooms, nursing mother’s areas, and sometimes displays are added in Café or bookshop areas. Displays can be used as graphic elements on the stage to support the worship experience. Depending on the location and use of the display, the content can be different. Content sources could include live video fed from the worship system, looped graphics and video announcements going to multiple displays from a video server, or localized content from a device attached to the display. We will discuss choosing displays, determining content sources, signal distribution and review some case studies of how digital signage is used in different sizes of houses of worship.
Taught by Dan Stark, President and Chief Engineer, Stark Raving Solutions

4:00 – 6:30pm

HOW 007: Case Studies in System Integration for Houses of Worship

This workshop examines 3-4 different system integration projects at real houses of worship. We’ll begin by looking at the main drivers and key challenges on each project. We’ll describe how these items were dealt with successfully or not, and how they affected the outcome of the overall project. Finally, we’ll look at what lessons were learnt on each project, so participants are better equipped for future success.
Taught by Justin Ross, Director of Business Development, Stark Raving Solution

HOW 008: Choosing the Right Projection System for Your Worship Venue

The last time we checked, there were well over 2,000 different projectors and display options with a vast range in price/performance options. With all the equipment options to choose from in the marketplace, how do you know which one best fits the needs of your congregation? This workshop will uncover the information that needs to be discovered before purchasing projection and display systems for your house of worship. Such factors as: sight lines and viewing angles, size of image relative to room, image resolution, achieving the right amount of brightness of the image (it’s not just lumens), aspect ratio, throw distances, front vs. rear production, plasma vs. LCD, and much more.
Taught by Dan Stark, President and Chief Engineer, Stark Raving Solutions
