DiGiCo SD Range - Power, flexibility and creativity

Company background

In 2002, DiGiCo launched its first digital mixing console, the technology quickly becoming an established part of live sound production.

The company’s current SD range employs Stealth Digital Processing™ via a Super FPGA engine and includes the SD7 and its theatre specific derivative, the SD7T, the SD8 and SD8-24 and the compact SD9.

All DiGiCo consoles have a common design from engine to surface interface. They all run MADI and/or OptoCore. Once an engineer knows how to work one console in the range, any other will be instantly familiar.

SD7

The SD7 was the first digital console to use Stealth Digital Processing™, making it the most powerful digital console to date. It has a flexible bussing structure with a possible 128 busses and 256 processing paths, plus a 32 x 32 Matrix, 32 x 32 band graphic EQs and many internal effects.

With all this power in just four chips, the SD7’s efficiency is dramatically increased, also freeing space to allow two complete redundant processing engines to be accommodated.

SD7 options include the EX-007 expander unit.

• 256 Processing paths at 96kHz with full processing
• Dynamic EQ and Multiband Compression on all paths
• Up to 48 Stereo FX + 32 GEQs
• Full Snapshot automation with detailed scope control and relative update
• Flexible worksurface layout
• Configurable metering options
• Up to 1392 I/O connection
• External video monitoring, routing and camera

SD8

The SD8 has a fixed architecture, delivering superlative audio performance with the same audio quality as the flagship SD7.

The control surface has 37 motorised faders (25 in the SD8-24), dedicated and multi-function control knobs with electronic labelling and a 15” high resolution, touch sensitive backlit display.

The SD8 provides up to 60 stereo inputs, 24 busses plus two solo busses and master, four band parametric EQ (with dynamic EQ on up to 8 channels), hi and lo pass filters and dynamics (including up to 8 instances of 3-band compression) on all inputs and outputs, 24 graphic EQs, 8 stereo effects and a 16 x 12 matrix.

When fitted with the optic option, the SD8 can have up to 4 racks connected to it, providing a huge pool of 240 I/O to route to and from.

• 60 channels mono or stereo (equivalent to 120 channels of DSP)
• 24 busses mono or stereo, + master + 12 matrix and dual solo busses (equivalent to 67 busses of DSP)
• Large 15” touch screen
• Remote Stage Rack and local I/O
• 16 x 12 output matrix (with overdrive)
• Snapshot control with relative update and offline facility
• Onboard effects and graphic EQs

SD8-24

At under a metre in width, the SD8-24 is ideal in situations where space is at a premium…conference work, theatre, monitors and more. It benefits from all the advanced features found on the standard SD8, with fully compatible between both models.

SD9

DiGiCo’s SD9 is a complete, integrated system for where exceptional performance and flexibility must be realised on a tight budget.

It includes the mixing surface, a D-Rack digital stage interface and CAT5E digital multicore. It features 32 microphone inputs, 8 line outputs and 8 modular outputs that can be selected as either analogue or AES, providing 32 ins and 16 outs, with the ability to simultaneously record 56 channels direct to multitrack software or DAW.

The work surface features a full colour digital TFT LCD touch sensitive screen, 24 full-length motorised faders with touch-sensitive caps, high resolution bar graph meters, quick access controls plus user defined RGB backlit LCD scribble strips to ensure that all functions are available to users in a split second, with no hunting through multiple menus.

The system is expandable, allowing a second D Rack to be connected via an additional CAT5E, doubling the number of inputs and outputs.

• 40 Flexi Channels mono or stereo (equivalent to 80 channels of DSP)
• 16 Flexi Busses, (mono or stereo) + Stereo or LCR Master + 8 Matrix and Dual Solo Busses (equivalent to 47 Busses of DSP)
• Large 15" touch screen for fast control
• New Remote Stage Rack + local I/O
• 8 x 8 Output Matrix
• Snapshot control with relative update and offline facility
• On board effects and Graphic EQs
• Additional I/O (MADI) for open platform recording or connection to other DiGiCo consoles and racks
• 24 touch sensitive faders with Metering
