Bio:
JOHN CHEVALIER serves as a Pastor and Worship Leader at large in Sonoma County, California. After being in church leadership for over 20 years, John now brings some of the most practical training in leadership, music and multi-media communication to the Christian community. John has used his leadership skills and team-building principles to better equip small businesses, churches and nonprofit corporations, and is currently the music and multimedia editorial advisor for "Technologies For Worship Ministry Magazine"
John’s passion is to equip the local church for ministry in the 21st century. “The church needs to realize, how out of touch it is with reality. If we are going to bring the message of the kingdom to earth, we need to love the same world that Jesus died for, not stand in judgment of it.”
His deepest desire is to know and experience the reality of God, and to communicate and encourage others to seek out that reality and to experience all that God has for them. His greatest joy is to see people experience God’s grace and accept His unconditional forgiveness regardless of their circumstances, their surroundings, or their past.
John spent 12 years as a faculty member and representative for the International Worship Institute in Dallas, Texas; and has been a featured speaker on Kingdom Publishing’s, Worship Audio Magazine. Recently, John has been a featured presenter at INFOCOMM, The National Association of Broadcasters Convention, and at WorshipMinistryU.com. He is on the teaching team for Heartfelt Music's Christian Guitar and Bass Conference and continues to speak at various worship, leadership & tech conferences nationwide.
Along with being a regular contributor for Technologies for Worship Magazine”, John has written two chapters in Tom Kraeuter’s book "Things They Didn’t Teach Me In Worship Leading School", and has been quoted several times in the new book, "Guiding Your Church Through A Worship Transition".
Over the years, John has been the worship leader for many multi-church events such as citywide concerts of prayer, the National Day of Prayer celebration, Celebrate Jesus 2000, Luis Palau’s Festival Events and March for Jesus. He has worked with such artists as; Paul & Rita Baloche, Morris Chapman, Steve Fry, David & Antonia Lawrence, LaMar Boschman, Vivian Hibbert, Bob Fitts, David Baroni, Rich Severson, Kent Henry, Marc Cooper and others.
He currently teaches Digital Video Technology & Multimedia for the Sonoma County Office of Education’s Career Development/ROP Program at Healdsburg High School.
John, his wife Becky, and their four children; Sarah, Timothy, Jonathan & Stephanie live in Healdsburg, California.
I have been teaching and equipping worship teams for 15 out of the 20 plus years that I've been in Christian ministry. Over this time I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a worship leader, musicians and instructor, along side many excellent ministries. In 2004, when I received an invitation from Barry Cobus to teach at the Inspiration Conference (a ministry sponsored by Technologies for Worship Ministry), I was very interested in seeing what their focus and goals were for equipping in the areas of worship, music, and technical ministries. After teaching a class at Inspiration in Long Beach we worked together to put together a complete worship & music curriculum for the 2005 Inspiration Conventions in Charlotte, NC and Santa Clara, CA.
In the past, there has been a huge gap in technical education that is geared toward houses of worship. The relationship between music ministry, technical ministry and pastoral ministry is extremely important, but sometimes ignored. Over the last several decades we have become a culture that communicates more visually than auditory. When it comes to audio and video communication our culture is also used to excellence in every area. The education that TFWM provides to local churches is invaluable as we, together, reach our communities with the message of Jesus in a way that is relevant to our society as a whole.
As a pastor and a worship leader, I see the need for technical education in the church, every day. When I received the call to teach for TFWM at INFOCOMM in Anaheim, I really didn’t have to think about it too long. As long as we continue to be relevant in our education of the local church I'll continue to write and teach for TFWM. Barry & Shelagh have set the bar high. The education that you’ll receive at any TFWM event; whether it’s in the area of tech ministries, worship ministry or any other class that they will choose to offer is “over the top”. Kevin, and his team, makes sure that the practicality of the articles that we run in the magazine are top-notch as well. If you have the opportunity to see us at one of the upcoming conventions, check out the full line of classes that TFWM is offering. I assure you that you will leave the event better equipped than when you arrived, as a matter of fact, I guarantee it. Sounds like I’m selling suits, huh!?
