Bio:
Kevin is a practicing architect specializing in environmental transformation of assembly spaces since 1987. CALLAHANstudios: FusionDesign serves participatory public assembly environments and CALLAHANstudios: SoulSpace serves assembly spaces for creative ministries. His talent is in the natural (pre-electrical era) assembly environment and his interest is in seeking a philosophy of technology and the inherent balance between the natural assembly environment and technology. He is currently completing research and authoring a book in that regard entitled “Rocket Art: Ancient Realities in Post Modern Worship Spaces”.
“Spaces, like people, have body language. In the context of sound, lighting, video and seating the body language of the space can either reinforce the mission and ministry of the church or compete against it. If your mission is to reach out and engage then your worship environment should say so. The environmental body language should encourage participation through connectedness and intimacy rather than a concert hall performance layout that says “sit back relax and enjoy the show”.
Participating as a speaker at the Technologies for Worship Conferences allows me to share this vision and understanding and educate houses of worship how to create the context for developing a philosophy of technology to most effectively utilize the ‘body language’ of the sound, lighting, video and seating in their church space to make their ministry impactful, relevant and exciting!”
