Sound Advice on the Net

By Bob Rudis

With the number of Christian-oriented web sites growing at the rate of over 200 per month, it's no surprise that there would be a plethora of audio/video sites that understand the multimedia needs of churches and Christian organizations. These web pages are as varied as the companies themselves, offering a wide array of services from online catalogs to question/answer forums. Technologies for Worship Magazine is also now beginning its Web presence (http://www.amipublishing.com/) and will be featuring articles on technologies for worship.

This article is designed to bring you an overview of some audio/video companies on the Net, including e-mail and Web addresses. If your company is missing, please e-mail your information to brudis@goshen.net. (Listings are in alphabetical order).

All Pro Sound
(dzimm@ix.netcom.com)
http://www.goshen.net/AllProSound
http://www.allprosound.com/
As you'll discover from their Web page, All Pro Sound is celebrating its 16th anniversary. With that landmark came changes to their Web site and Web address, (as indicated, they will soon be http://www.allprosound.com/). You'll find a picture of their showroom, their online catalog (complete with descriptions, photos, and online ordering), plus audio and video departments. The most unique feature of their Web site, however, is "Ask All Pro"-- a forum where you can post questions to the experts at All Pro and receive "sound advice" via electronic mail.

Atlantic Audio Systems
http://www.goshen.net/icrd/cpr/cpr025/aas/index.html Sporting more of a billboard-type site, AAS does offer a substantial savings on their 1 hour 48 minute "Understanding Sound Systems" video which covers microphones (including wireless technology), mixers, processors, amplifiers, loudspeakers, equalizers, feedback, and troubleshooting guidelines.

BKLA Ltd.
(sound@bkla.com) http://www.bkla.com/ Point your browser to this site and you'll be very impressed with the clean design, speedy download time, and the information presented. Two things stood out to me as I cruised this stop on the Information Superhighway: their design services section and a rather fun online decibel calculator. BKLA's Design Services section covers all aspects of audio/video technology and includes extensive descriptions and online examples (both audio and visual) of common problems and solutions. For you techno-surfers, their JavaScript Decibel calculator will keep you entertained while providing a very useful service (for Internet Explorer, Netscape, and other JavaScript-enabled browsers).

G. Paul Media
http://www.gpaul.com/ G. Paul is new to the net but has intentions on providing a very useful service to the Christian community. From seminar listings to a free online newsletter, G. Paul Media's main mission is to provide highly effective media tools for today's ministries whose focus is to translate their God-given vision into life changing, dynamic ministry programs.

H.L. Dalis, Inc.
(hldalis@ix.netcom.com)
http://users.aol.com/hldalis2/HOMEPAGE/home.html
Visitors to this page are given the opportunity to request a free catalog and peruse H.L. Dalis's online specials (by vendor). H.L. Dalis also provides links to other broadcasting sites on the Net.

JdB Sound
(jdbsound@echo-on.net)
http://www.echo-on.net/~jdbsound/jdbsound.htm
There's a reason why this site is called the "Church Sound System Learning Center." For starters, they have over 80 pages on church sound systems and church acoustics, free consulting, church sound system profiles, seminar listings, and a complete archive of articles on church audio and acoustics. Even experienced engineers will learn something at this site!

Modern Music Systems
(modernmusic@legrand.com)
http://www.legrand.com/modernmusic/church/chrchtop.htm
While "under construction," this site offers advice on sound systems for churches, businesses, and bands/groups. As you wait for all their info to come online, take a minute to check out the extensive list of vendors and product listings a great directory to some top manufactures on the Net.

SLVP Magazine
(slvp@mail.interconnect.net)
http://www.slvp.com/slvp/
Though it hasn't been updated since February 1996, SLVP online contains articles of current and past issues, plus information on advertising rates for both the printed and online editions.

Studio Street
http://www.goshen.net/studiost/
Studio Street's page is also more billboard type than Web site, but it offers solid information on PA systems, concert touring systems, mixing, and wireless systems.

TCMR Communications, Inc.
(tcmrtalk@airmail.net)
http://www.goshen.net/tcmr/
The home page of The Church Music Report contains a wide variety of services, including editorial excerpts from its printed publications, the TCMR question/answer message board, and online archives of its electronic mailing list. There's plenty to do at this site!

Yanda's Pro Audio
(yandas@woody.lopernet.net)
http://www.lopernet.net/yandas/homepage.htm
Looking to purchase a sound system? Look no further than Yanda's Sound System Online Bid Request form. Just fill out their extensive survey and choose "Submit" to receive a detailed quote on what it will cost to meet your needs. If it's a great deal you're after, check out their "Deal(s) of the Month" section for great prices and immediate online ordering. And, for the engineers out there, you'll appreciate Yanda's "Tip O' the Month" which provides very thorough information on a wide varitey of topics.
